City Labs Receives the Key to Miami-Dade County

There are moments that validate years of dedication, teamwork, and belief in a shared vision. For the City Labs team, receiving the Key to Miami-Dade County was one of those unforgettable milestones.

Accepting this recognition on behalf of City Labs, our founder and CEO Peter Cabauy reflected:

“It was an incredible moment for our team and for me personally to be recognized in the community where I grew up.”

This honor is more than a symbolic key—it’s a celebration of innovation, resilience, and the power of building deep roots in the place we call home.

Born in Miami, Built for the Planet

Founded in Miami in 2005, City Labs was created to solve one of the toughest challenges in electronics: how to power mission-critical devices when replacing or recharging a battery isn’t possible.

Today, our work in betavoltaic NanoTritium™ power sources supports applications ranging from aerospace and national security to medical devices and industrial sensors. What started as a small Miami startup is now enabling technologies that operate for decades on Earth, as well as in extreme environments such as space and the lunar surface.

Throughout our growth, one thing has remained constant: Miami is our home base, and its innovation ecosystem continues to shape our company and our mission.

City Labs Key Ceremony A Key to the County: A Symbol of Trust and Partnership

The Key to Miami-Dade County is one of the highest honors the county bestows, representing not only achievement but a meaningful contribution to the community.

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Oliver G. Gilbert III shared: “In this community that I love, there are a lot of people doing wonderful things that benefit them. I bring people here and I give them keys to the county when they are a testament to where they’re from and they’re actually helping others.”

Other 2025 Key-to-the-County recipients include the financial technology company Inter, Miami City Campus, soccer icon Lionel Messi, and musician Flo Rida.

As Peter shared, “Thank you to Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, the Miami-Dade Beacon Council, and everyone helping build the future of innovation in Miami.”

This award belongs as much to our community partners as it does to our team. It reflects the growing belief that tech manufacturing and deep-tech research can thrive in Miami-Dade County.
