New director of research at City Labs”

Larry Olsen has been named director of research at City Labs, a maker of batteries for microelectronics in Homestead. Olsen, a seminal pioneer of betavoltaic technology, has been working with City Labs as a consultant since 2009. He led the team that developed the first betavoltaic nuclear batteries for cardiac pacemakers at Douglas Laboratories in the 1960s. Before joining City Labs, he was a research scientist with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, where he developed programs in photovoltaics, thermoelectric energy conversion and radiation detectors.
